Our Story

1920

It all began with a small ice cream parlour opened by Karl Oexmann in 1920 in Bochum. Within a very short time there were another 5 outlets.

1924

Ice cream cones were often in short supply in the summer, so Mr Oexmann decided he would make his own cones. He bought his first wafer baking machine to supply his own ice cream parlour. Within a very short time this proved to have been an excellent decision as other ice cream dealers soon realised they could rely on Oexmann to supply ice cream cones and so more machines were acquired.

1926

The ice cream cone production was doing so well that Mr Oexmann sold his ice cream parlour to concentrate on producing the cones. In 1926 he founded the Karl Oexmann ice cream cone factory in Gelsenkirchen. Business flourished and within a short time he had 60 hand machines producing cones for all the ice cream dealers within a radius of 100 km.

1944

On 9th November 1944, during the war, the factory was completely burned out. It was not until 1946 that production could be restarted – and then in a bunker.

1962

In 1962 a new generation took over. Wolfgang Oexmann led the second generation of the family business.

1974

A serious shortage of space leads to the construction of a new factory in 1974.  A state –of-the-art factory was built on spacious premises.
By the following year it was clear that the investment had been the right decision as this was the year that Oexmann began developing and producing cones for Langnese.

1991

In the years that followed Oexmann went on to become one of the world leaders in ice cream cones. In 1991 the purchase of an external 12,000 m² warehouse became necessary.

1995

A new generation: Thomas Oexmann, the grandson of the company founder took over the business.

1996

The company celebrated the 70th year of its foundation. Oexmann is known as a reliable supplier to customers in Germany and internationally.  Moreover, permanent development of technologies has secured several manufacturing process patents.

Today

The business is growing and flourishing. The ice cream cones are exported to virtually all European countries. Oexmann has a 40 percent market share in Germany and 65 percent in Finland. For the last 12 years the company has reported consistent growth rates.

The formula for success is based on a mix of capabilities: quality, customer service and constant technical improvement. Decades of experience, extensive expertise in wafer cone production and modern technology combine to ensure consistent high quality.

  • It is our aim to work at the forefront of modern technology and nonetheless retain the tradition of baking. Oexmann has traditionally selected ingredients with no chemical additives to use in Grandma’s secret recipe, which is why we can look back at over 70 years of tasty ice cream cones with that extra touch of excellence!
